Inside The £5,000-A-Night Luxury Villa In Antigua Where Lionel Messi Spent His Honeymoon

Lionel Messi has got it pretty good, hasn’t he? He’s one of the best players in the history, has recently signed a new bumper deal with his beloved Barcelona, and has just married his childhood sweetheart, Antonella. It’s fair to say that the only thing that would make Messi’s life that little bit sweeter, would be if he managed to wrestle the Ballon d’Or off of his nemesis, Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s also fair to say that Messi probably has an insane amount of cash in the bank. Forbes reckon the star earned a reported $80 million last year and looking at the resort he stayed in during his honeymoon, money is no problem to the superstar.

After marrying long-term girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo in their native Rosario in Argentina on June 30, Messi and his family (including his two sons Thiago and Mateo) set off to the exclusive Jumby Bay resort in Antigua for 10 days of pure luxury in an unbelievable setting.

The resort, which is owned by Rosewood Hotels group, boasts some seriously expensive accommodation including a few $6,400-a-night luxury villas which “provide incredible views of Henzell Point looking across the Caribbean Sea to Antigua”.

The Messi family stayed in a 4,150 square-foot property which had three bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, indoor/outdoor dining areas, access to the beach, as well as a private pool and jacuzzi. To top it all off, they also had their own golf cart (AKA everyone’s dream) which gave them easy access to the villa. Take a look at it below.

However, surely there’s only enough room for one world class player on an island? Wrong. Messi was joined by team mate and good friend, Luis Suarez, with the two players sharpening their skills together before the new season starts. In a video uploaded onto Messi’s Instagram, the pair can be seen playing a casual game of head tennis in the pool.

Sadly for the duo, they will have shortly have to snap back to reality with Barcelona’s pre-season training beginning on Friday; and with a new manager at the helm, they will be keen to make an impression (not that they need to, this is Messi and Suarez after all).

Ernesto Valverde will be taking his troops out to the United States for the majority of their pre-season preparations. Once the boys have landed in the States, they will take part in some juicy games against Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup. Although these games sound pretty tasty, they will likely be pretty drab affairs due to it being pre-season, but it’ll be interesting to see if Valverde stamps his authority on the way Barca play.

Not done there, once Barca arrive back in sunny Spain, they will be confronted with a double-header against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, with the Catalans wanted to exert some revenge on Los Blancos for last year. 2016/17 was a disappointing year for Messi and Barca, they got their hands on the Copa del Rey but had to watch as Real lifted La Liga as well as their third Champions League in four seasons.
